More beauty salons, barbers and hairdressers opened in 2016 than any other type of business.
This news was confirmed by the recent Local Data Company’s (LDC) Leisure and Retail report. This business sector has overtaken the previous leader, coffee shops, tea-rooms and take-aways.
The hair and beauty industry saw the highest number of new businesses opening with beauty salons, barbers, hairdressers and nail salons occupying four of the individual top ten slots.
The greatest number of closures was suffered by banks, convenience stores, fashion shops, newsagents, pubs and women’s clothing.
Of course all these new businesses mean more competition for existing salons. I am pleased to say I welcome the challenge!
